Complete with everything needed for easy installation, the SmartPilot X-5 Wheel is quick to fit and simple to use. Mount the separate control unit where it is easy to reach and see. The patented fluxgate compass is mounted separately for optimum performance. The LCD shows the pilot status and repeats up to seven pages of user-defined navigation data from your ST60 system. It is also equipped with the latest SeaTalkng networking and a standard rate-gyro processor ensuring razor sharp course keeping under any conditions. The SmartPilot X-5 Wheel is designed for yachts with a laden displacement of up to 16,500lbs (7,500kg) Remember, always take the fully laden displacement weight of your vessel into account. This is often 20% above the designed displacement. Do not choose a pilot which will always be working at the limit of its design capabilities.

While and autopilot is a complicated device, the system was easy install and the directions very clear. I have been using mine on a 29' sailboat for several months. I recently sailed my boat from Tampa, across the gulf, to Carrabelle, FL. The autopilot was essential. It was like having a 3rd, 4th, 5th person who liked to control the helm(there were 2 of us on this trip). I sail regularly on weekends, and I constantly use it. While I justified the initial purchase because of the gulf crossing, I would gladly get another down the road just for weekend sails.

This is the second Raymarine Autopilot I have owned and the easiest to install. Both work very well. Not having to worry about steering while setting fishing lines is a major plus!
