Although the price tag is almost $1000, this lens is a bargain when compared to similar lenses being made by third-party manufacturers such as Sigma, especially when you consider that Sigma's 105mm macro has compatibility issues with the D7000. As a premium Nikon lens it produces sharp images. That's to be expected. The barrel is metal and the VR works as described by Nikon. I've managed to hand-hold this lens and get sharp images with shutter speeds as low as 1/8th second. The autofocus is EXREMELY fast and quiet. The AF-S motor allows you to have instant manual focus override. Even if you aren't an avid macro shooter, this lens is a great addition to any photographer's kit as all of it's great features make it suitable for general photography as well.

I haven't done much macro photography but I am looking forward to what this lens can do. It is a heavier lens but the benefits will definitley compensate for that. I am still getting familiar with it but as said before, I am looking forward to using it more and more.

This lens is perfect. I have taken the best close-up pics I have ever taken using it. Super quiet auto-focus, great vibration control, and overall the best macro lens I have ever seen. A must buy for anyone into macro photography
