This is one of a handful of lenses every professional photographer shooting Nikon FX dSLR or film cameras should own. The field of view and versatility makes this an extremely useful lens. When paired with a medium telephoto zoom like the 80-200mm f/2.8 or 70-200mm f/2.8 VR lens, you can pretty much cover any event. It's very sharp and produces images equal to any of the fixed wide lenses that Nikon produces with perhaps the exception of the f/1.4 primes. In fact, it actually vignettes less than the 20mm f/2.8. The autofocus is fast, quiet and accurate. Construction is really great, as the barrel is all metal. One word of caution: if you plan on purchasing this lens, make sure that any filter you use has a slim profile, as filters with thick filter rings will vignette when this lens is shot at 17mm.
