FeaturesSpecificationsManfrotto Tripod Head 322RC2 Grip Action Ball Reviews
Take the versatility of a ball head, add true ergonomic control and you get the 322RC2: a photographic head that allows you to unblock, move, position and lock your camera with one hand in one position thanks to the revolutionary design of its grip handle, which incorporates the ball lock lever and can also mount the 322RS shutter release accessory. A friction control wheel lets you regulate the power of the blocking mechanism to match the weight of your camera/lens. The 322RC2 is made from magnesium for lightweight performance, and is designed to keep the weight of your kit as close as possible to the tripod's centre of gravity by way of its reduced height. This, matched with the precision construction of the 322RC2, gives the head its load capacity of 11lbs (5kg). NB. When the head is used in the vertical configuration (to match the function of the existing 222 head), its load capacity is only 5.5 lbs (2.5kg).

Complete with built-in bubble spirit level and quick release camera plate (standard 1/4 - 20" screw, with secondary safety pin). Suitable for use with 35mm or medium format cameras.

I like to keep my right hand on the shutter so I changed it to left hand setup right away. I'm amazed at how quick and easily you can change posisions from horizontal to vertical. Very easy to pan also.

Great ease of handling and wide range of motion. I feel my camera is secure and steady on the tripod with the Bogen Pistol Grip. My friend and I both have one and we both agree this is a terrific product. I highly recommend it.

Comments about Manfrotto Tripod Head 322RC2 Grip Action Ball:

This great head allows you to move your camera really easy. It is sturdy and can be adjusted for both left and right hands. It even can mount verticaly. Only negative side is that it is pretty bulky.

Comments about Manfrotto Tripod Head 322RC2 Grip Action Ball:

When I bought this, it was a toss up between the 3 way pan/ tilt ball head and the grip action head. I originally wanted the grip head for the cool factor, but the ball head was less expensive and had a really great fit and finish. I am glad I chose the grip head as it works on my monopod and tripod, but, like mentioned in other reviews does everything but pan.
Super Versatile as you can reconfigure the head for southpaw, hayfoot, or vertical with just an allen wrench.
It is overbuilt and puts up with my nature photography (in the woods and streams) and on the side line for sports photography.

Comments about Manfrotto Tripod Head 322RC2 Grip Action Ball:

Over the past 25 or more years, I've carried my Bogen 3020 across 30 states and into 6 countries and have always been satisfied with the 3-way control head it came with. But this head is WOW! It is almost TOO easy..aren't photographers suppose to work for their shots?

I shoot mostly scenics, landscapes, close-ups and some portraiture. This 322RC2 works perfectly well for me. It may not be well suited for action photography where panning is required as you cannot pan unless you release the grip and then you lose both vertical and horizontal lock.

One pleasant surprise for me is that I can mount my Mamiya 645 while the L-Grip is still attached! (see photos) I've not been able to do that ever and this is a big plus for me. Also, while this head is rated for 35mm, it handles my 645 quite easily. There is a tension adjustment on the head, but I didn't have to change it from the tension level it was set at from the factory to accomodate my medium format camera.

You can rotate the camera from straight up to straight down with one quick rotation of the wrist. I don't know why you would want to, but if you did, you can!

One negative, mentioned in the checklist above: the circular bubble level. This is only beneficial if you want your camera perfectly level on both axis (axi? axises? axae??) and often I just need the camera to be level to the horizon alone. So it looks like I'll have to go get a different level and figure out where to put it.

I'll be buying several more of the quick release platforms for my Digital and 35mm cameras now that I know how well it performs.
