A-RB (Anti-Rust Bearings) are specially treated stainless steel ball bearings that are at least 10 times more corrosion resistant than standard stainless steel ball bearings. Handle Side VBS allows the angler to adjust the VBS brake weights without removing the spool from the reel. Variable Brake System (VBS) uses centrifugal force rather than magnets to aid in controlling the cast for increased distance and adjustability. Super Stopper is a one-way roller bearing that eliminates backplay for solid hooksets. Assist Stopper is a back-up anti-reverse system that reduces the stress placed on the one-way roller bearing to increase durability. Non-Disengaging Levelwind System (available only on models 400 and 401) allows the levelwind to track back and forth during the cast which reduces drastic line angles that cause unwanted friction and backlashes on wide-spool reels. Recessed Reel Foot (except on models 400 and 401) allows the reel to sit closer to the rod for comfort and maneuverability. Three Post Quick Take Down (except on models CDF100A which is 2-post) by unscrewing the thumb screws the sideplate can be easily removed for maintenance or to adjust the VBS brake weights. Metal Series Metal frames keep moving parts in precise alignment for increased efficiency and durability. Rubber Handle Grip is comfortable and soft to the touch. Diecast Aluminum Frame. Aluminum Spool.

Comments about Shimano Shimano Cardiff CDF-401A Baitcast Reel:

This reel is affordable, fairly light weight and has a smooth drag. This nice and wide reel has infinite anti-reverse that is a pleasure to use. The bait clicker that is loud enough to hear over the kicker motor, but seems to add just a little drag while free spooling without the "bail" open. It isn't a problem if trolling with downriggers though. All in all these reels are great I have them on all my freshwater/in-shore casting rods.
