Comments about Penn Penn 560L Live Liner Spinning Reel:

I use my live liner type reels mostly for bottom fishing live and cut bait on Florida reefs and in the Gulf. The "free spool" feature allows me to keep the bait in one spot even when the boat is swinging on anchor. Here in Michigan the same reels are used on downrigger rods for Trout and Salmon. The Penn drag system works smoothly on long runs by big fish. The 560 and 460 compared to the Shimano Baitrunner 4500 and 3500 are lighter, or maybe just better balanced. I MUCH prefer the earlier Penn 5600/4600 models that allowed you to take up slack line while staying in the liveliner mode. Lacking that, the reel is tied with Shimano and Okuma except for the supurb drag which makes it my current favorite.

Comments about Penn Penn 560L Live Liner Spinning Reel:

This reel is an excellent choice for bay and nearshore saltwater fishing. The Liveliner drag permits threadfins to move freely around the boat, enticing predators. Match the 560L to a medium 8' rod with a fast action tip. The heft of the reel permits spooling up a lot of yards of line, even 30# braid, for bigger fish and long runs. With the longer rod, the rig is exceptionally well balanced. The retreive is smooth and fast. The ability to switch the Liveliner on and off, as well as adjusting the Liveliner drag during the fight, makes handeling large fish much easier. It eliminates breakoffs.
