Comments about MAS MAS Resin:
I used the MAS low viscosity resin and slow hardner to stiffen up some rotted spots on my hull stringer and to reinforce the area with a woven roven mat. The temp out side was in the 90's.
I also used this system to wet out the rotted wood section. It soaked in well and had plenty of working time to allow satuation while painting on more. After a couple of hours, I used the system to make a putty using fumed silca to fill in holes, trowel smooth and to build coves. The painted on system had become cured just enough to take the putty. I had plenty of time to mix in the silica and to apply.
Once, the putty had set to finger print cure, I used the system to wet out the area and lay in the roven. The thin resin and slow cure wetted the cloth fast, thoroughly and without trapped air. A disposable paint bush was used, didn't need to use a roller.
The 2 to 1 ratios made mixing very straight forward and they blended well and the entrained air surfaced quickly. I never had to get in a rush to apply and the pot never got hot or smoked. Also, I never noticed a blush film.
MAS has a series of very comprehensive "how to" video on their website.

Comments about MAS MAS Resin:
i was strongly encouraged by one of my friends to use this instead of WEST. i was very hesitant and almost didn't listen. but i gave in and tried it and i am SO GLAD i did. this is GREAT epoxy. i put an entire new floor in my boat and epoxy'd and fiberglassed the entire floor using MAS Slow. it did and incredible job and in my opinion, is very forgiving. i know that i miscounted my number of pumps more than once b/c i was mixing large quantities.. but it didn't matter.. it came out great every time.. i applied it using a cheapo paint brush and a paint roller!!! and unless you stick your head in the bucket of epoxy, you won't even smell and odor. it's as close to odorless you could ever get. i never got a headache and used in extensively in a ventilated garage. i also used the wood filler additive and to fill gaps and it is rock solid and very sandable / paintable. sorry WEST.. your days are numbered. have no reservations.. this is great stuff.
Comments about MAS MAS Resin:
After only using West Systems epoxy for the past several years, I was hesitant to try a different brand. After all, West Systems makes a great product so why should I? Finally, the cost advantage of Mas led me to give them a try and boy am I glad that I did. I purchased a small volume of resin, medium hardener, some filler, and the pump set.
The advantages of Mas epoxy/hardener is clearly in its finish. I've found that when using other products its usually neccesary to be somewhat careful during the application process in order to have better than average results. My first experiment with Mas was just a down and dirty bonding job where appearance didn't matter. I was pleasantly surprised when I found that my quick little bond looked just as good as my carefully laid out West Systems parts. I extended this further when I tried it over a larger area, where I knew that time management and careful layup would be needed for a superior finish. Again, not only was the process easier than what I was used to, but it actually looked better than my normal results!
I think the strongest advantage with Mas is that the mixed resin/hardener is very thin, so thin that I've gotten excellent results using a paintbrush rather than the normal spreader method! Thickening is straight forward and predictable.
My only complaint so far has been that the resin pump is really slow to return on the upstroke. That, combined with the fairly low volume per pump can make for a rather tedious process of getting the resin out for larger jobs. Of course, you could always just remove the pumps and do it the old fashioned way for larger mixes, but then that's 10x as messy as not using pumps at all.
That said, it's still a great product and I am now a loyal follower. I'll still use the pumps just for the simplicity and less mess. If you're debating about switching brands, don't hesitate! You'll be glad you did.
