You can attach a suction cup at one end and your GPS or compass at the other. Good for theft protection because you just release the suction on the suction cup to remove. Ideal for temporary mount if you want to experiment with different locations on your boat before settling on a permanent mounting solution. You may have to do some drilling to make appropriate holes for mounting bolts, this turned out to be very easy for me. But bring along your device to be mounted to the store to be on the safe side.
