Bought this unit to pull a 24 Privateer. This could be a good unit if not for several critical design flaws. We have a number of manually operated Powerwinches that work well ( I work somewhere where we run people around on boats as part of the job).
Flaws in this unit include 1) Remote must be re-programmed if not used for a short while
2) There is a fuse inside the case which blows easily.
3) To replace the fuse takes - a T30 torx bit to get into the case and a T 15 torx bit to release the fuse from the clamps holding the fuse in place
4) The fuse itself is a 5 A 250 volt AGC fuse, short variety - not something you find just anywhere.
The good part is there is a winch handle stored in the case so you can winch it in by hand when the fuse blows and you can't replace it.

The remote failed the first season Called the company and there response was sorry to hear that! Recommended that I call some guy here in MD who might be able to fix it--sorry again! Called the guy his response was I might need a need electrical board since remote won't communicate with the winch.
Only saving grace was a rear mounted switch to by pass the remote. Cost to repair/replace exceeded the cost of the winch.

Rc30 and RC23 has a major flaw in the design of the clutch tighting knob and the two sets of needle bearings that are on each side of the drive gear. If you tighten it enough to get your boat in the bearings fail and heat up so hot the the knob melts. If you don't tighten the knob tight enough the knob gets hot and melts. [...] I bought it because of the clutch was capable of releasing the boat at a slow speed if needed. But it is the major flaw.

The outer case of the unit broke twice, the first after only two weeks of use. The company sent replacement. We also had the cable wrap around the outside of the cable reel. Had to cut the cable to fix. Not real happy with unit.

POWERWINCH PLASTIC COVER WAS CRACKED, THE 2ND ONE BOUGHT WAS ALSO CRACKED. IT WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NOT WINCH IN THE BOAT. I WOULD NOT BUY THIS AGAIN.

This winch was easy to install, works great so far and I am completely impressed with the remote control feature. My cranked winch broke and I'm so glad it did now.

First I would like to say I bought this product last year and it looks like they redisgned the housing. [...] The casing is fragile so be carefull mounting it. Once it is mounted the case is more sturdy and the unit is very durable. I hit the top of the winch a couple of times with my pulpit without damage. Even with my troubles I would recomend it. It is nice to winch my 6000lbs. boat sitting in my truck. My back sure appreciates it! Powerwinch is one of the best and customer service is fantastic which is hard to come by these days.
