Comments about Innovative Innovative Hatch Series:

I'm completely renovating a 1982 O'Day 22 sailboat. Along w/all the modern convienences, I've added 15 of these hatches and baskets from everywhere from the cockpit to galley and beneath bunks. Also used them as doors to match in various places. The large hatch (23") suffers from no insert yet available so I'm glassing in the storage area and lining it w/cedar. They also come in other sizes from Innovative. Their only drawback is they are not lockable which would be a nice additional option as would the whole hatch and storage area to be fully watertight yet remaining removable to access hull areas beneath.

I've found I am able to make 2-tiered storage areas of immense size on a small boat. If the bottom tier is glassed in, the whole hatch becomes a watertight compartment that adds to floatation...so much so that I've ditched the original boat floatation and gone to almost exclusively watertight hatches w/some poured in foam between stowage areas.
