Comments about Uniden Uniden MHS550 VHF/FRS/GMRS Radio:

I did lots of comparison shopping before deciding on the Uniden 550. The audio is excellent. I especially like the easy-to-read italic numerals on the screen (much better than the old blocky-style digital numerals). The radio is very intuitive, including automatically changing the wattage to 1 watt for Channel 13(bridge-to-bridge). The only negative is that you cannot directly connect the VHF radio to the 12 volt receptacle on the boat. It has to be connected through the charger base station, which means you can't easily run the radio off the boat's power. Overall I am glad I chose the Uniden 550 in spite of that one flaw.
