Comments about Garmin Garmin GPSMAP 76Cx Handheld GPS:

USE: I use this product as the main GPS in my 30 foot sailboat. It is also the GPS I would put in the grab bag in case of an accident, because is battery operated, compact and waterproof. I also use it in my car to find directions to different places. It has no speakers but you can see in the screen when to turn, etc.. I use it when hiking, and you could use it also for gliding.
GREAT: Portable, waterproof, multiple uses, accurate to 3 meters, available charts (at a cost) for any place in the world, driving maps, etc... Simple to use, long lasting AA batteries, multiple accessories to use it in your car, your boat, your bike, etc.. It works great for boats because you can enter waypoints, set up routes, etc... For cars, it gives you directions to places.
NOT GREAT: The additional cost to buy the blue charts to get high detail information for navigation.

Comments about Garmin Garmin GPSMAP 76Cx Handheld GPS:

I did not understand that buying this unit was a waste of my money. It does not provide any realistic boating accuracy unless I also buy a [$] map program. THat makes this far more expensive than I thought. also the auto units out now include the maping program and real world accuracy. I tried my unit without the extra [$] program and the locations were about 100 feet off.. this will cause me to run aground in many locations

Comments about Garmin Garmin GPSMAP 76Cx Handheld GPS:

When I chose the 76cx, I was torn between a larger fixed mount and the portable 76cs. I was mainly concerned about the size of the display. I am glad that I chose the 76cs. The display sioze is fine, and I have the added advantage of using one GPS unit for all my outdoor activities. My primay activity is fishing the flats of SWFL, and this unit is perfect for that.
