Comments about Garmin Garmin GPSMAP 440s:

I'm a marine technician. I use it on my own personal boat and have a extra power cable. I carry it with me whenever I'm on a boat with no electronics.

I wish the water temp could be displayed on the split screen.

I singlehand (57 years old) most of the time in an O'Day 30' sailboat, since buying this unit I have gone from Cape Fear to Freeport then onto Fort Myers via Okeechobee Waterway and then to Cozumel round trip to Fort Myers. My life has depended on this units reliability and interface with the auot pilot, so I could sleep. I thank the people who designed it, built it, made it affordable.

Comments about Garmin Garmin GPSMAP 440s:

I installed this unit about a month ago, and have been very happy with it! I read the instructions, which were easy to follow and clear, and the installation took me about two hours. The template included with the instructions made mounting the transducer a snap. I was worried about the warning "May have to adjust up or down depending on surface disturbance," but from the first voyage it worked perfectly! My favorite function is the split screen navigation and sonar botttom mapping with fish finder. It's not huge -- the screen could be bigger, but my boat is an 18' bowrider with a small dash, so it was really a perfect fit!

This is great. I all most ran into a submerged island point, but avoided it with the GPS map. Sometimes the water can go from 50 foot deep to 2 foot deep in seconds, but you cant see through it. Finding your way home is nice too...

Difficult Menus
Best Uses:
Marine Navagation, Marking Fish Locations
Bottom Line:

Comments about Garmin Garmin GPSMAP 440s:

The Menus to me were not intuituve. I had to refer to the manual frequently. Updates from the internet fixed most of this. I was dissapointed that although I registered on line, I did not receive email notification of updates available. Very reliable, good features. I leave it on GPS most of the time as it also displays speed, heading, water depth, water temp. and good maps.
