WAAS - What Is It? The Best Fix You Can Get!
WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) is a network of ground-based stations spread across the United States that correct any errors in the Global Positioning System. After receiving data from sub-stations, master stations correct for satellite drift, Selective Availability, and atmospheric conditions, then send this corrected data to two geostationary satellites. These satellites then broadcast the data to your WAAS-capable GPS reciever. The result is a Differential GPS system that pinpoints your position to within 3 meters.
The Raychart 425 is the chartplotter of choice for boaters who want pinpoint accuracy, but don't have a lot of console space. The 6'' LCD displays tremendous detail and fits perfectly on any console. Built-in world base map that can be enhanced with Navionics electronic charts (sold separately). Stores up to 500 waypoints and 20 reversible routes. Comes standard with backlit screen and keypad. Displays include course deviation indicator; bearing and distance indicator; and graphic steering indicators. The Raychart 425 comes packaged with Raytheon's Raystar 120 GPS-WAAS sensor, accurate to 3 meters. This compact performer is perfect for any boater or fisherman who needs stand alone accuracy and repeatability along with Raytheon's reliability. Dimensions: 6.62'' W x 7.9'' H x 3'' D.
